Norma Hopkins / Mixed Media & Embroidery
Norma uses symbolism and allegory to explore her ideas. Memories and life experiences are woven into the fabric of the pieces through the media of drawing, painting and collage. The works may stay as one-off framed paintings or collages and some pieces act as pre-cursors to final embroideries. She also has an interest in computer textile design and its creative use in computerised embroidery.
Norma graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University, specialising in embroidery. She subsequently attained a PGCE and followed a career, teaching in further education for 20 years. She now runs workshops and weekly classes in textile design, design development, embroidery, painting and experimental drawing. As one half of Connect-2, together with her associate Teresa Jones, they offer textile workshops and talks to Guilds and embroidery clubs on a variety of topics.
