Light Fantastic

The World Of Glass
3rd Sept – 4th Nov 2016

With the passage of light through glass at its heart, Textile21 presents a contemporary textile exhibition inspired by the collection of artefacts, art, and history at St Helens World of Glass.

The artists have explored the relationship between light and glass through the medium of textiles. They have used a diverse range of techniques and materials to investigate social history, the world of theatre and story, the melting process of glassmaking, patterns found in the building and the artifacts themselves.

The result is a stimulating exhibition which represents each artist‘s personal vision of the fantastic phenomenon of light through glass.

Each exhibit takes an aspect of the original and pushes it in a new direction. The result is a vibrant explosion of colour in total contrast with the delicate, ethereal feel of the first exhibition.

Fashioned in Silk

Macclesfield Silk Museum
15th Feb  –  19th April 2014

This exhibition is a departure from the normal paintings on a wall, it is a free standing installation of 16 silk organza dresses that have been decorated and embellished by Textile 21 members. The installation is supported by sketchbooks, preparation and extension work.
It presents a contemporary textile installation, referencing the rich heritage of Macclesfield’s association with silk. Additional detail to the 16 ethereal silk organza toilés, reflect each artist’s personal vision in response to the theme “Fashioned in Silk”.
