Wearable Art

Essentially I am a maker, but my work is often both functional and conceptual. A recurring theme is the deep-rooted attitudes to women in society. Fabrics, whether brand new, remnants, or previously used, are my inspiration. I often  create a new fabric before making it into a garment or accessory. Fabric manipulation, computerised and free machine embroidery, as well as more traditional techniques all play a part. I worked in adult education for 20 years, teaching design development, fashion and embroidery.

As one half of the partnership ‘Connect-2’, with Norma Hopkins, I currently run workshops in design development and embroidery techniques. I also give talks to Guilds and groups.
