Using examples from her work, Norma talks you through the process she uses as she creates her embroideries. She peels away the layers of meaning, starting with an appreciation of the finished textile piece, through its inspiration and development, to the hidden truths beneath.

 

Colour onto Cloth 

1-Day Workshop

Prepare fabrics by applying colour onto cloth. You will use techniques such as stencilling, foiling, printing and frottage to enhance hand dyed fabric provided for you by Norma. Take away sumptuous fabrics to use in your projects, plus more ideas to try at home.

Inspiration for embroidery

This talk suggests ways in which to find inspiration to create embroideries. It emphasises the value of play and what to do with an imposed theme. Using examples from her own work, Norma suggests ways to begin and gives ideas for developing the work towards finished pieces.

Making your Mark

1/2 day workshop

This is a simple, fun technique which produces instant, exciting results to create a beautifully coloured ground fabric. This can be used as a starting point for a piece of stitched cloth. Layer up intense, vibrant colours by simply using a range of marker pens, fabric markers, Inktense pencils and blocks, with plain water.
